Date and Location Announced

Today is a big day! The date and location for Cantering Carousel 2017 have been announced!

The show will be held on the 19th & 20th of August 2017 in Ettington Community Centre, Warwickshire.

This is a nice big hall with loads of space, good parking and ample grounds.

It is relatively easy to find and close to the M40. It's central location is perfect and it is close to Warwick services which has a Days Inn so there is somewhere cheap to stay overnight.

There are also several tourist attractions nearby so parents can go off and have a nice day out!

Tickets will be available from the 19th of August 2016.

Full schedule and details will be available soon, please be aware that I'm still without all my files and computer which makes life quite difficult (I miss photoshop :()

The website for the hall is here: http://www.ettingtoncommunitycentre.co.uk/home

Narrowing Down the Halls

So my aim is to get a hall booked within the next two weeks.

We have narrowed it down to four halls (yay) and are now looking at going to view them. All nice halls, all have good points and bad points as always. I have a favourite but as with all things model horse live showing we won't know until we've actually seen them!

Also as always they are severely lacking in tables...why can't halls just have lots of tables? Urgh.

Re dates the plan was always August :) So hopefully that is OK with everyone. I'm hoping that by releasing the date early people will be able to put it in their diaries for next year :D

The plan is still to open for tickets on the 1st of October. And we'll have a full schedule and information released before then so that you guys can have a look through and see what we are doing.

The plan regarding the schedule is to go for something similar to Glitz & Glamour a few years ago. Which would mean sections for:

Performance
Original Finish
Plastic CTF
Bendy CTF
Fun/Novice

Workmanship
Custom Finish
Artist Resin
Animal Artistry
Artist China

But they will probably be cut down a bit, more sections, but a few less classes. We don't want to be there until midnight!

BINGO!

Sorry I didn't do a Monday update, that is bad of me!

Anyway this weeks update is what do you do instead of a raffle? Well of course you steal an idea off another hobbyist and do Bingo instead!

I didn't want to run two raffles (boring) so instead I've decided that on the Saturday instead of a raffle we will have model horse Bingo!

There will be a selection of really nice prizes on offer, split as normal Bingo prizes would be (with the very nice ones for those who get a full house).

People will be able to buy Bingo cards, which instead of numbers will have the names of Breyer moulds on them.

Then moulds will be called and people will use special counters (most likely sweets) to mark off their cards. We will keep playing until all the prizes have been won :D

Just like the raffle we will be asking for donations (in fact we will be asking for donations across the weekend and then I'll split them evenly between the two looking at value/appeal etc).

If you have anything you would like to donate please just email: catriona@chestnutridge.co.uk

I know its a long way away but you cannot be too prepared!

On another note once Brendon's exams are over we will start seeking out a venue, we have narrowed down a few possibilities but as with all things we won't know until we've actually seen them. We are still open to suggestions so if you have one please just get in touch :)

Ticket Types

So from now on, right up until the show we will have a new announcement every Monday. So keep checking back!

Obviously for now, until tickets go on sale and stuff starts happening some of these are going to be a bit brief and boring (well nothing is ever boring but still).

But today I thought I'd announce how we are going to be doing the tickets.

Tickets will be available in three types:

  • Gold Ticket
  • Silver Ticket
  • Bronze Ticket
  • Spectators
Obviously the cost will be higher for the gold and silver tickets, but you'll get a lot more with them. Tickets will be sold for the whole weekend or for a single day and will include live show entry in the price.

Each ticket will allow you to buy up to two spectator tickets, which will be nice and cheap, but spectators won't get any fun stuff like goody bags and cannot enter any of the shows or competitions throughout the weekend.

Children under 5 years will be free to attend when coming with a full price ticket holder. But they will not be allowed to show or enter competitions.

We will work out pricing in due course but the aim is for the bronze ticket to be as affordable as possible, for those on a budget. Then we have silver for those who want a little bit more but don't want to completely splash the cash and then gold for those who want an amazing weekend of awesomeness.

Gold and silver tickets will include things such as entry to exclusive draws, amazing filled goody bags and lunch for both days.

But more information and prices will be released once we have a venue and date. Tickets will be on sale from October hopefully!

If you have any comments or suggestions, please just let us know.

Happy Monday everyone :D

Location, Location, Ooo Look it has a Pool Table!

The first and biggest challenge of running this event was always going to be finding the right location. Although I think I underestimated how hard that was going to be!

My wish list is simple:

Central Location
One Large Hall
Smaller halls/rooms (optional)
Plenty of Parking
Tables (again can be hired so not 100% necessary)
Kitchen

So really that shouldn't be too hard should it? I mean a nice sized hall with a little smaller one and lots of parking.

Pfft, it is far from easy!

Here is the contradiction at the heart of my life "sits up to 200 people dining" ooo that sounds nice and big great, "has ample parking for 30 cars"

Ummm....now a simple look at the maths here would suggest that people would have to be seriously packing into those cars to get 200 people seated.

Or you find one with a really big car park *yay* and it's in Devon.... (why are all the good halls really far South or North????)

Now I'm prepared to compromise but parking and space are two big issues. Working on the assumption that most people travel alone you essentially need a parking space for every attendee. So if you want 50 people, there has to be space for 50 cars, or your are *poof* no good.

And then there's cost. Because you need to cover costs, so you need to sell enough tickets to cover cost, and you need to assume that you won't sell out. So say you need 50 people to cover costs, you need to have enough space for 75 or so.

Thing is even if people aren't showing, one can always sell more attendance tickets than live show spaces, they will still need to park! So basically my life is now spent on google maps inspecting car parking facilities.

I need help! I asked Brendon for help and his help was basically me telling him the location and him going "no". Helpful. Really helpful.

Unfortunately the one with a pool table is not in a suitable location (sorry to disappoint).

So back to the life of location searching, if you have a suggestion then please let me know!

O and I'll leave you with this, one of the halls I found had amazing diagrams of layouts, this here, this is what every live show hall searcher dreams of:

So a shout out to this location: http://www.npcommunitycentre.org/

Why hello there :)

First of all I want to thank all of you for your input and suggestions. Every single one of them is appreciated and I am working my socks off to ensure that as many ideas as possible get incorporated into this event.

This event is designed to be a weekend of fun, showing and general model horse mayhem! We hope that if it is a success we can make it a yearly thing.

The aim is to make it about the hobby, we want every single one of you to get involved. Whether it is through volunteering to help with judging or stewarding the show, sharing your tips and tricks on a demonstration table or simply having a sales stall, this is your chance to enjoy and have fun with the hobby we all love.

We will of course be looking for all kinds of volunteers, prizes and general stuffs so keep checking back.

If you want to be involved in any way you just need to drop me an email: catriona@chestnutridge.co.uk

The location and date will be announced shortly, that is my first priority! Once we have secured that we will start to release information about every other element.

The aim is to release a new thing every week, so check back every Monday for more updates!

And remember if you want to get involved please just drop me an email, we are after everything from exclusive models, to helpers to raffle prize donations. Just email catriona@chestnutridge.co.uk

Thank you :) And ENJOY :D
